Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev is revered as one of the greatest fast bowlers and all-rounders ever, having led India to their maiden World Cup triumph in 1983 in England. Dev holds two records for fastest 400 Test wicket taker, as well as being an impressive batsman who scored over 3,800 runs across 225 limited overs matches.
Kapil was an all-round cricketer whose performances revolutionized Indian cricket. An all-rounder capable of bowling both spin and pace bowling and possessing rare controlled aggression with both bat and ball, Kapil made his debut in 1978 and immediately terrorised domestic batsmen with natural outswingers and rhythmic run-ups that established him as an integral member of their side – further cemented with performances during their 1979 tour of England tour that cemented this status further.
Kapil’s performance in one-day internationals (ODIs) was equally outstanding and led the country in terms of run scoring for both formats during 1977-78 season – contributing significantly to team’s successes in Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy competitions.
Kapil’s greatest triumph came during England’s 1983 World Cup when he captained an underdog India side that started the tournament as 66-1 underdogs.
When India were 17 for five against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in a must-win match, he took charge and made history by scoring 175 not out to score an unbelievable win and create one of the greatest one day international innings ever seen in ODI cricket history.
His efforts were instrumental to India’s triumph and earned him both Test and ODI series’ Man of the Series awards. After becoming India’s permanent captain for 1985 World Cup title in Australia, Kapil excelled as an inspirational leader who could command respect from his team while remaining calm under pressure.
Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar was known for his aggressive, determined style of batting that saw him become one of the first batsmen ever to reach 10,000 Test runs, helping India win its maiden World Cup triumph in 1983 and recording four centuries and two half centuries against Windies opponents – not to mention 100 catches taken across his international career!
He authored one of India’s greatest ever World Cup victories against them as part of India’s successful World Cup bid in 1983. He held over 100 catches during this illustrious international career!
Sunil Gavaskar is widely regarded as the greatest opening batsman of all time and one of the greatest cricketers ever. His ability to dominate some of history’s fiercest fast bowlers made him an undeniable force on the pitch.
A fantastic left-handed opening batsman, Gavaskar possessed outstanding technique as he was known as an outstanding striker of the ball with impeccable technique; always at the forefront of India’s batting lineup; his bat inspired other batsmen within their team to follow his lead and emulate him!
Gavaskar made his Ranji debut during 1968-69 against Karnataka and soon responded by scoring two consecutive centuries, earning his place into India’s national squad. On debuting against England on tour in 1970 he achieved another milestone, scoring an exceptional century – his inaugural Test century!
Gavaskar continued his great form in Test cricket and scored 34 centuries, which was a record at the time. He was also an important part of India’s batting lineup in one-day internationals (ODIs), including the 1987 Cricket World Cup. Although his ODI career was not as successful as his Test career, Gavaskar remained one of India’s most influential batting legends.
