France have enjoyed success against Belgium recently, winning each of their last three meetings in all competitions. At Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon they remain undefeated against them – they remain the only team ever to have defeated Belgium at home! Even without key players like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe available, Didier Deschamps’ side should still have enough firepower at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to overcome a stubborn Belgian team.

One victory from either side will vault them past Italy into second place in Group G and set up a potential last-32 tie against their group winners; but still much remains at stake; France and Belgium are tied on points; however a victory for France could secure them top position, while Belgium could still make the knockout stage with wins from their remaining matches and help from other results going their way.

57 minutes: France forwards are enjoying more success, with Dembele particularly impressing in their attacks. He moves into space well and shoots just wide of the post before France attempt to press home their advantage and battle in the area before having it cleared for a corner kick.

Dembele was sent clear again moments later, only for his low shot to be blocked by an expert diving header from Tielemans. With time slipping away, France appear poised for victory – their defense has been solid, their attacking threat potency impressive but their finishing skills may yet to surface as much as expected – perhaps this will come during the final quarter.
