Defensive Line

Indiana Hoosiers defense was one of the nation’s premier units last season, regularly sacking quarterbacks and forcing turnovers during an impressive College Football Playoff run.

Returning players like Tyrique Tucker (AP All-American second team tackle) and graduate defensive end Mario Landino will help strengthen IU’s defensive lineup while new faces join Bryant Haines and Curt Cignetti’s staff to provide plenty of depth at this position.

Indiana Hoosiers Football Vs Oregon Ducks Football Match Player Stats highlight how the Hoosiers’ dominant defensive front consistently disrupted opposing offenses, making them one of the toughest units in college football.

Once he lost edge rushers Mikail Kamara, Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt to graduation, Cignetti quickly made an impactful statement about replacing them via transfer portal.

Joe Hjelle from Tulsa stood out among all applicants as an accomplished interior player; although initially only considered two-star recruit out of high school. Under former Tulsa coach Kevin Wilson he has flourished to earn academic All-Conference Team status in 2024.

Hoosier fans also got an addition from Texas State in Dominique Ratcliff, a redshirt senior and Norfolk native who led Conference USA interior defenders in snaps played and made first team All-Conference USA honors this past season – making him an invaluable backup to Tucker.

On the outside, Indiana will feature freshmen Josh Burnham and Tobi Osunsanmi vying for playing time; both were outstanding during spring practices. Furthermore, Kareem Daley of Kent State will add veteran leadership in the middle of their defense.

Osunsami brings with him speed and athleticism that could prove impactful this season for Indiana. He could help get off to a swift start this time around.

Offensive Line

Hoosiers’ offensive line was an instrumental factor in their national championship run last season and should continue its strong play this year. Carter Smith returns as a redshirt junior and should be one of the premier left tackles in college football; instead of declaring for the NFL draft he chose instead to return and continue developing with Bob Bostad.

Drew Evans returns as two-year starter; right tackle Bray Lynch earned Joe Moore Award semifinalist status due to an excellent 2025 campaign; along with Wisconsin transfer Joe Brunner who will likely start at guard position

Indiana boasts one of the most experienced starting lineups in college football. However, their backup options consist solely of underclassmen – meaning that redshirt sophomore Austin Leibfried, Baylor Wilkin and Matt Marek may see significant snaps along with true freshman Adedamola Ajani this fall.

Linebackers

Linebackers are an integral component of a team’s defensive backfield, playing an essential role in stopping ball carriers, sacking quarterbacks and making tackles while reading opponents’ signals and reacting quickly.

Hoosier linebackers have seen tremendous improvements under head coach Curt Cignetti; now boasting top-tier group with Carter Smith, Tyrique Tucker and Drew Evans being recognized by media as well as their peers for their stellar play this year; earning praise both within their group and from coaches and teammates alike for their superb play this season and earning respect from players and coaches alike for being such essential players!

Indiana Hoosiers football program is part of NCAA Division I FBS Big Ten Conference and began playing intercollegiate football as early as 1892; its modern era can be traced to 1948 when Big Ten expanded from 10 to 12 games.

Under former head coach Kevin Wilson’s (2011-2016), several school records for offensive yards and points were broken during that period; since Wilson left, new head coach Curt Cignetti has continued improving the Hoosiers stats with single game records set within two years as head coach.

Indiana (IU) – Fernando Mendoza scores on a 1-yard run after three plays and eighty yards through 13 plays (6:20 of drive time). Indiana leads 10-0.

MSU – Martin Connington kicked a 38-yard field goal at 8 minutes and 1 second into their opening drive of 15 plays and 55 yards over 5 minutes and 53 seconds, to give their side an early 3-0 advantage.

Indiana (IU) scored on Kaelon Black’s 2-yard run (Nico Radicic kick), 14:21. Hoosiers led 31-3 after 9 plays covering 62 yards over 4:53 of drive time.

Indiana (IU) scored with Omar Cooper Jr. receiving a 13-yard pass from Fernando Mendoza (Nico Radicic kick), in 0 minutes 36 seconds to pull ahead 27-24. Their 13 plays covered 80 yards over 5:20 to make this happen. PSU came back and tied things 7-7 when Nicholas Singleton ran 1-yard over (Ryan Barker kick).

Quarterbacks

Under Curt Cignetti’s direction, the Indiana Hoosiers football program has rapidly transformed from disrepair into one of college football’s premier programs in just two seasons. Their turnaround can be credited to great coaching and exceptional players on this squad.

Hoosiers look poised to make an impressive run during the 2026 season thanks to a dynamic quarterback corps. However, their mettle will be tested against an extremely difficult Big Ten schedule; though defense could present issues in some games; their offense should provide enough of an edge that should allow them to prevail most times.

Indiana Hoosiers accomplished an unprecedented feat during 2025-2026 season by going undefeated and winning national championship. Curt Cignetti led them to this achievement that’s hard to match any other team in their league.

EJ Williams is a highly acclaimed quarterback prospect and was recognized with the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Award in 2025, becoming the first Hoosiers quarterback since 20 years to claim this accolade. Additionally, EJ earned first team All-Big Ten honors and led Indiana in passing yards and touchdowns during 2025.

He set a single-game IU record with his.950 completion percentage against Indiana State on September 12th. In total he completed 14 out of 15 passes while also gaining 24 yards rushing on four attempts and connecting with Omar Cooper Jr. for a 49-yard touchdown pass with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Fernando joined his brother Brady Allen of Arkansas to become the first pair of brothers to throw touchdown passes for their respective FBS teams on the same day since 2015 against UT Martin. During his collegiate career, Fernando also established Cal single-season records for passing touchdowns (41) and passing efficiency (182.9), while ranking No. 7 in school history for career 250-yard passing games (10).

His leadership and passing ability have made him a key figure in Indiana Hoosiers Football Vs Oregon Ducks Football Match Player Stats, where his performances against one of the Big Ten’s toughest defenses continue to draw significant attention from college football fans and analysts.
