With a semifinal spot at Euro 2024 on the line, this quarter-final should provide plenty of excitement. Both teams boast top talent such as Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Ronald Koeman will field the same team that defeated Romania, including centre backs Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake. Additionally, Ronald will include Xavi Simons and Jerry Schouten in his midfield, as seen in the Netherlands national football team vs Turkey national football team lineups.
Netherlands Lineup
The Netherlands national football team, affectionately dubbed Clockwork Oranje due to their success at Total Football during the 70s, have an extensive record at European Championships. One time winners of this tournament — 1988 — they reached two finals, losing both times to West Germany and Argentina respectively.
Ronald Koeman has taken charge of the Oranje since Ronald De Boer left Barcelona last July and hopes to guide them to victory at their first major tournament since Munich. Koeman has an experienced squad to choose from including Nathan Ake from Manchester City, Patrick van Aanholt from Crystal Palace and Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool; unfortunately due to injuries sustained by Luuk de Jong and Donny van der Beek this squad now stands at 24 players.
In their opening match against Poland in Group D, the Netherlands came from behind to defeat them and advance. Later they beat a France team without Kylian Mbabbe in their last group game to set up a last-16 encounter against Romania.
Koeman’s decision to employ a five-man defense against Romania in their opener was wise and may continue throughout the tournament – although Koeman could switch up their formation depending on how effective his forwards prove themselves to be.
Donyell Malen has been outstanding since coming on as a substitute during the win against Poland and is likely to remain as second striker, alongside Memphis Depay. RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons serves as main support behind those forwards while Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst provide pace behind.
Donny van der Beek was absent from Netherlands’ starting lineup due to an ankle injury sustained on June 23, giving Manchester United’s Chris Smalling and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk a chance to start. Both players are highly-regarded in their clubs’ midfields and may make a significant impactful statement against Germany in midfield.
Turkey Lineup
Turkey boasts an excellent combination of experienced players and promising youngsters that combine to form a dynamic attacking unit with plenty of options. Their squad boasts outstanding playmakers who can cover a lot of ground while creating chances. Yazici stands out as an exceptional playmaker capable of covering lots of ground quickly while creating chances. He stands out as one of the tournament’s most dangerous players with key passing, set-piece taking, shooting from distance and false nine skills being just some of his abilities; moreover all midfielders possess drop deeper capabilities to strengthen defense.
However, after their 3-0 defeat against Albania in their previous matchup, South Africa must win this match in order to advance to the semifinals. It should prove an exciting contest between two teams with similar goal differentials who will strive for goalscoring opportunities at each opportunity. Both will aim to attack and score as many goals as possible during this encounter.
Ronald Koeman of the Netherlands will most likely deploy an identical formation from that which defeated Romania, featuring defenders Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake, midfielders Jerry Schouten and Tijjani Reijnders and attackers Xavi Simons and Cody Gakpo.
Turkey will be missing Merih Demiralk and midfielders Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek due to yellow cards received against Austria in their last-eight clash. Their positions will be filled by Samet Akaydin and Hakan Calhanoglu respectively.
Roberto Martinez will likely field the same team he employed against Czech Republic, with Joao Cancelo starting alongside Pepe at right back, with Cristiano Ronaldo receiving support from Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao. Diogo Dalot may be replaced with either Joao Palhinha or Vitinha, both having performed admirably against Czech Republic.

Turkey vs Netherlands Prediction
With their recent 2-1 victory over Romania under their belts, the Netherlands stand a chance of reaching Euro 2024 semifinals for the first time in 20 years. But Turkey have proven themselves an adversary which should not be underestimated.
The Turks boast a formidable frontline led by Arda Guler who leads the tournament with three goals scored from four matches and also assisted Merih Demiral’s winning goal against Austria. But their midfield and attack are dangerous enough opponents.
Turkish have trailed early in each game but managed to come from behind to score seven goals total. Georgia threatened in the opening minute before Portugal nearly scored twice before halftime; both opportunities went begging however.
However, while the Dutch have superior attackers to Turkey, their defensive weaknesses could prove costly. They allowed 7.6 expected goals over their opening two games and are yet to keep a clean sheet in this tournament; furthermore they were exposed in their 3-0 defeat by Belgium and may struggle to protect any leads they gain.
Koeman will take heart in knowing that Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk and Ake will be available for this game against Fenerbahce; unfortunately Fenerbahce defender Samet Akaydin will miss it; captain Hakan Calhanoglu and holding midfielder Ismail Yuksek both received yellow cards prior to kick-off.
At Saturday’s match between Amsterdam and Bolton, both teams will face each other with strength against strength. Both can create numerous chances, so whichever side makes the first breakthrough will set the pace of play for the remainder of the matchup – it should have the Amsterdam Stadium vibrating! While not as free-flowing as 2021 matchups between these teams, both possess quality players; thus whoever can lead their side forward more consistently should come away with all three points.
