India already have their place in the Super Eights secured, so when they take on Canada in Lauderhill on Saturday they will aim to cap off Group A with an emphatic performance.
Weather forecast for Florida looks favorable but rain could arrive during match hours. We will keep you posted as soon as we have further updates. India vs Canada
India are in control of Group A and need only win their final match to clinch a spot in the Super 8 stage. Rohit Sharma will face an uphill struggle against Canada, who have made their presence felt in this tournament so far.
But Indian batsmen have struggled to make an impactful statement on New York’s testing pitches. Meanwhile, India’s bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh have kept India’s batsmen under constant pressure with their spin bowling spells.
Ravindra Jadeja has proven an asset for India with his inclusion. Jadeja should help build confidence among India’s batsmen while giving more options for attack for this team.
Kohli will look to recover after an underwhelming start in this tournament. After making only 1 and 4 against Ireland and Pakistan respectively before departing without scoring against USA in their last match, Kohli was at his best during warm up against Canada, scoring an unbeaten fifty on a difficult pitch.
India will probably field three spinners against Canada, who have struggled to pick up wickets thus far in this tournament. Mohammed Siraj may make way on the bench for Kuldeep Yadav who could make his debut. Kuldeep, with experience playing spin-friendly Caribbean pitches, may get chosen ahead of Axar Patel or Ravindra Jadeja.
The First Match
India will likely take a cautious approach with their batting in their last Group match against Canada. They already qualified for the Super 8 stage, so will likely test out their bench strength against an inferior side like Canada. Rohit Sharma’s men have shown great form so far in this tournament by defeating Ireland, Pakistan, and USA with ease.
India could use a victory over Canada to set them on course for success as they enter the next phase of this tournament. Their bowling unit has shown its worth with Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge with five wickets while Arshdeep Siraj and Axar Patel provide excellent support – while Hardik Pandya remains an essential piece of their arsenal.
As Canada is known to do, taking down Canada won’t come easy. Lauderhill weather conditions don’t look particularly promising with scattered thunderstorms possible in the afternoon – this may result in the game being called off early or being interrupted for short period of time.
Indian team will look to maximize every moment they get during this tournament, building on their impressive performances thus far. Ravindra Jadeja may miss out and Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel should replace him, though this should not cause too much concern among their think-tank as their depth will allow players such as Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav to find form in this game.
The Second Match
India will look to maintain their unbeaten start when they take on Canada in their final Group A match at Lauderhill, Florida. Rohit Sharma’s squad have already qualified for Super Eight stage but will want to end off their USA leg of tournament on a strong note.
India have rebounded well since their initial defeat against Ireland with impressive bowling performances in their next two matches. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh have been outstanding so far – and won’t allow rival batsmen to build decent scores against them. Pandya and Singh, in particular, proved themselves at international level even after poor IPL campaigns – this will give their management plenty of encouragement.
Indian batsman Rishabh Pant’s fantastic performance against Ireland showed how devastating India can be with their bat. Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube found their groove to create an extremely potent middle order for India.
Ravindra Jadeja has not been in top form, yet should still retain his place on an adverse pitch which might favour batsmen. India may drop Mohammed Siraj for Kuldeep Yadav who has been performing consistently well; perhaps over Axar Patel from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). India could use Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist-spinner in Caribbean pitches that favour spinners – something which may prove crucial against Pakistan and Ireland as well.
The Third Match
India are currently unbeaten in this tournament and will look to continue their run when they face Canada on June 15 at Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. Star Sports will broadcast the match live.
Rohit Sharma wins the toss and opts to bat first on an excellent batting pitch here. It will be interesting to watch how Indian openers respond.
National Anthems Are Over – Let The Game Begin! Rohit Sharma will hope for a strong start from both batsmen and bowlers as this match is one that India needs to win.
Shubman Gill returns from an injury layoff and hopes to score some runs and prove himself. Due to a slow outfield, however, most of his efforts yield three hits rather than the desired boundaries.
Bumrah begins his over, looking to edge Khawaja but ends up hitting his thigh pad instead. An umpires review is called but they ultimately decide it is not out and he continues playing.
Jaiswal begins on his backfoot and punches a hard hit towards point for a single. On the very next pitch he gets another single.
Kohli attempts to drive the ball towards midwicket but ends up in Marsh’s hands instead. Shortly afterwards, Kohli attempts to push it towards long on but instead hits the ropes, prompting an enquiry and review hearing to take place.
The Fourth Match
India will play Canada in their final group stage matchup. Canada have done well so far, winning two matches out of three played against USA while losing only once against them; currently sitting fourth in their league standings they still stand a chance of qualifying for Super 8.
Navneet Dhaliwal has been Canada’s star performer at bat and scored an excellent fifty in their match against USA. Born in Chandigarh and representing Punjab age-group cricket before relocating to Canada at 22 and representing them ever since in T20 internationals.
Dhaliwal will be keen on helping his team qualify for the Super 8 tournament, taking five wickets in three matches as an all-round performer with both bat and ball. India should remain wary of Dhaliwal as Florida pitches have historically favoured batters more.
India may attempt to make some adjustments for this game. Rohit Sharma may try something different with opening with Virat Kohli; possibly by recruiting Yashasvi Jaiswal to open with him instead and free Ravindra Jadeja up for number three batting duties. Axar Patel may be replaced by Kuldeep Yadav; Yuzvendra Chahal could even replace Jasprit Bumrah who has had difficulty on New York pitches.
Weather forecast for this game does not look promising, with high chances of rain during match hours and hope it may clear up later in the day, leading to what could potentially become an exciting contest.
