Gareth Southgate has kept faith with the same side that defeated Serbia 1-0 four days ago, including Luke Shaw who is still recovering from an injury and Jordan Pickford starting as goalkeeper.
Denmark National Football Team vs England National Football Team Lineups: Denmark’s Jonas Wind attempts to make something happen but is easily denied by Pickford’s diving save. England are starting to become more involved as Bukayo Saka darts into the box from the right.
England XI vs. Denmark
The Three Lions began their Euro 2024 campaign with an emphatic victory against Serbia and appear set to continue their momentum when they face Denmark in Frankfurt on Saturday. Gareth Southgate is expected to stick with the same starting XI that earned England their hard-fought win against Serbia; Luke Shaw continues training away from the squad as he gains match fitness, and may remain on the bench in Frankfurt against Denmark. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice should get another opportunity to bed in together while Lewis Dunk, John Stones, Marc Guehi and Kieran Trippier should all keep their places.
Denmark tied Slovenia 1-1 in their opener but are currently on one point and need a victory against England to have any chance of progressing into the knockout rounds of this tournament. Simon Kjaer will likely field an almost identical lineup from their last match while making any necessary tweaks as they look to find their back of net. That could see Morten Hjulmand and Jonas Wind make way for Brentford duo Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen who could replace them.
Eriksen will continue his role as number 10 on offense and lead Rasmus Hojlund and Jonas Wind up front, with Alexander Bah and Victor Kristiansen as potential alternatives for Denmark; Joakim Maehle may start on the right flank as well.
England XI vs. Serbia
Gareth Southgate is determined to start England’s Euro 2024 campaign off right and a win against Serbia would certainly do that. But this won’t be an easy challenge for Southgate; Serbia despite their modest expectations has plenty of talented players that won’t roll over easily for England.
England are currently holding their opponents off well, keeping their visitors at bay until further notice. But the hosts cannot become complacent – instead they must remain aggressive in attack in order to break through this solid opposition and break it down.
Kieran Trippier will rely heavily on his defensive capabilities to limit Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as the stand-in left back, while Kyle Walker and John Stones provide solid centre back coverage. Trent Alexander-Arnold plays an essential role for the home side midfield, with Declan Rice and Phil Foden looking to stretch out Serbian defence through attacking play.
Manchester City’s Jack Grealish must improve on his performances leading up to this game and Eberechi Eze will look to prove himself as an asset alongside Liverpool star Sadio Mane in their frontline.
An ambitious shot from Dusan Vlahovic was deflected over by Jordan Pickford but England were well in control with their attacking play and should take great heart from how game management issues, a concern throughout this campaign, were kept at a minimum.
England have a free-kick 25 yards out from goal and they take it quickly, Trent Alexander-Arnold sending the ball over the wall towards Bukayo Saka who just can’t reach it, neither could he pass it onto Jude Bellingham who would likely have scored had Gudelj not tackled him so aggressively. Meanwhile Serbian players regroup and regroup again, but cannot break through this stubborn defense from England.
England XI vs. Slovenia
Gareth Southgate must inject new life into his England side following their dismal opening to Euro 2024 campaign, in time to face Slovenia on Thursday in Frankfurt. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden may need resting during this game or young players such as Anthony Gordon, Kobbie Mainoo or Adam Wharton could take their opportunity to make an impressionful statement at this tournament.
Southgate could keep faith with his starting XI that started against Serbia, giving Trent Alexander-Arnold more opportunities in midfield. Luke Shaw remains unavailable and would likely help break up defensive stalemates that allowed Serbia to score.
England will need to find ways to break through Slovenia’s impressive backline to win this match, and England had an opportunity in the first half when Bukayo Saka finished off an excellent team move, but his goal was ruled out for being scored offside.
The Three Lions will strive to improve their performance in the second half, but that will prove challenging against a well-drilled Serbia team with plenty of energy. Gareth Southgate may give Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka from Chelsea another opportunity to stretch the pitch and provide forwards with greater outlets, while Manchester City pair Declan Rice and Conor Gallagher should partner up again centrally.
Denmark will likely select a starting eleven similar to what they used against Ukraine. Joakim Maehle, Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen should retain their starting positions, with Rasmus Hojbjerg and Joakim Hjulmand hoping for minutes from the bench while Yusuf Poulsen and Kasper Dolberg vying for more minutes as substitutes.
England XI vs. Croatia
Gareth Southgate makes one alteration from his side that started against Serbia, keeping Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield while Kieran Trippier switches out to left back. Luke Shaw remains doubtful after missing training, with his fitness likely determining whether he starts here or against Romania on Monday in Manchester – should the Chelsea player miss out, either Conor Gallagher or Kobbie Mainoo could replace him at centre-half alongside Jordan Rice.
Raheem Sterling should remain one of England’s key performers up front, with Harry Kane leading from behind him. Phil Foden may try and control play from just behind them; Manchester City star Raheem Sterling had an attempt blocked and saved by Kasper Schmeichel during an earlier matchup against Sweden.
Denmark will field a three-man defence, featuring Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen and former Chelsea player Andreas Christensen along with Leicester City’s Jannik Vestergaard and Leicester defender Christian Norgaard as key personnel to protect 37-year-old goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from attack. Wolfsburg defender Christian Norgaard and Brentford’s Joakim Maehle will provide defensive assistance.
England will rely on its speed on the break to take down Croatia, with Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane capable of running behind opponents to score goals. But Denmark are strong and organised at the back, which should serve to frustrate England for prolonged periods.
The game will air live in the United States on FOX and in Spanish via Vix. Fubo also offers a seven-day trial period to stream it.
At 19:00 BST, England will begin looking to take an early lead and extend it throughout the match, potentially into extra time if necessary. A draw would be seen as satisfactory by hosts England; both teams will likely have ample chances in the opening stages of play; any defeat would be devastating but any win puts England into position to reach the knockout phase of competition.
