RR vs KKR
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders engaged in an exciting encounter on day 2, winning the toss and electing to bat first after winning it.
Quinton de Kock and Moeen Ali started slowly before Moeen unleashed an amazing six sixes streak en route to 95 runs that saw his innings reach new heights; ultimately finishing on 206/4 from 20 overs.
Rajasthan enjoyed some bright moments with their bat, with both Jofra Archer and Vaibhav Suryavanshi showing signs of recovery after struggling at the start of this season. But their spinners fell short – Theekshana Nag and Angkrish Raghuvanshi both have strong attacks, but due to lack of control cannot replicate Ravi Ashwin and Yuzi Chahal as match-winning spin duos.
RR’s bowlers were ineffective during the middle overs, as they struggled to find their rhythm with the new ball and frequently gave away runs easily.
Since this match had already been lost, vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer must rethink his strategy and collect more wickets if he wishes for any hope of salvaging something from this campaign.
On the other side of the coin, KKR were hoping for a win to secure their playoff berth and Andre Russell did not disappoint with an unbeaten 57 that featured three sixes and 10 fours to propel KKR towards an impressive total of 206 for 4.
Rinku Singh contributed an outstanding 19 off 6 balls, and Andre Russel added some neat strokes in the innings. But KKR will need to improve their consistency if they hope to make the top four this season;
Their batsmen have been quite inconsistent so far and their batting will need to step up for greater victories; their spin trio of Narine, Chakaravarthy, and Anukul Roy has performed admirably while speed attack must pick up more wickets this year if they hope to go all the way.
IPL 2025
IPL was established in 2008, featuring eight franchises. Each team competes against its opponent in home-and-away format in 14 league matches to determine who advances to playoffs;
Then two top teams from each group meet up again for Super Over to determine who takes home a prize pool of Rs 100 crore (US$14.7 million) prize money – an event widely recognized for stimulating Indian economies while being one of cricket’s premier tournaments.
The Royals have endured an underwhelming campaign so far and this match against KKR may be their only chance at salvaging something from their season. Without Sanju Samson to lead them forward, their only option may be to battle back and deliver an impressive performance against an equally formidable opposition.
the Royals looked on course to avoid defeat after Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ajinkya Rahane put on an excellent opening partnership of 92 runs for the second wicket before Gurbaz was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga and Shimron Hetmyer was trapped leg before by Varun Chakravarthy – though even then they lost wickets, the Royals held out until reaching 206/8 after 20 overs.
Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls to help the Royals set a record-breaking total, hitting nine boundaries and six maximums en route to being named Player of the Match.
James Faulkner took 3/11 wickets against Knight Riders to reduce their score to 152/8.
RR’s win ensured they avoided bottom spot in their group but remains vulnerable from relegation. KKR currently sit in sixth spot with six points and must win three more matches to secure top four finish.
The playoffs for IPL 2019 will commence on May 29 with Qualifer and Eliminator matches taking place simultaneously on that same day.
The location for Playoffs will be revealed shortly, while the final will take place on June 3 in Kolkata Knight Riders’ favor. Chennai Super Kings hold five championship titles while Kolkata Knight Riders follow closely behind with three. Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad all tied third place having each won two titles each.
Head-to-Head Record
Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are two teams that are widely considered strong. Both boast elite players, creating exciting rivalries which has resulted in Super Overs.
Both are widely considered among the best IPL teams ever. This match will give these two squads another opportunity to show what makes them special.
In their previous encounter at Eden Gardens, KKR defeated RR by two wickets in an enthralling game, led by Jos Buttler’s breathtaking century for RR that helped secure victory for their side.
This match will go down in Indian cricket history as one of its most memorable IPL encounters ever!
However, KKR had an uneven start to the season and are struggling to remain in contention with playoff contention. Their first loss came against RCB when their batsmen struggled against them to cross over.
But KKR quickly returned to winning ways against MI, winning by six wickets to move back up into fourth position and four points away from making the top four.
Ajinkya Rahane’s side must now win all four remaining matches – two at home! – in order to secure top four placement.
KKR will look to maintain their momentum in their next match against RR, scheduled for Barsapara stadium in Guwahati at 7:30 PM IST on March 26. The match begins at this time.
KKR’s bowlers struggled against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), prompting worries over Varun Chakravarthy’s effectiveness on a favorable Guwahati pitch. Meanwhile, Anrich Nortje’s return will add strength to their attack.
Match Schedule
KKR are still alive in the playoffs race, and victory against Rajasthan on Sunday afternoon will cement that. They currently hold third spot with 16 points and will host three of their remaining four matches at Eden Gardens – a venue where they have only won once out of five home matches.
RR currently sits fourth in the table with 14 points after two consecutive defeats in league matches – against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on Thursday and Delhi Capitals in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday respectively.
Ajinkya Rahane’s team had an impressive auction to start their 2025 season, keeping key players like Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje while adding Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, and Manish Pandey.
However, they have struggled significantly this season and will need to make significant strides forward if they hope to qualify for the Playoffs.
Rajasthan’s bowling has been one of their primary issues this IPL, boasting both the second worst economy rate and bowling average in the competition.
Their spinners have struggled to adapt and get things going as needed; something which must be addressed swiftly to turn around their fortunes.
Eden Gardens will likely offer a slow-pace surface that favours slower bowlers. When KKR last played there, Punjab Kings routed them as the ball consistently beat them back.
KKR needs a quick start as they have the lowest powerplay scoring rate this IPL season. In order to keep their wickets from falling at inopportune moments Prithvi Shaw and Dinesh Kartik will need to step up, while finding some consistency among their batsmen in particular during Powerplay is important as that could allow them to set up an impressive total on the board and go on to win big!
