Brazil’s Starting XI

Brazil coach Dorival Junior will look to inject his team with renewed momentum against Colombia at Levis Stadium. Since taking charge in January 2024, his Selecao have been uninspiring but steady; their recent win against Paraguay moved them up five spots on South American standings to seventh, seven behind leaders Argentina.

Due to recent defeats at Venezuela and Uruguay, and an equal draw against Uruguay, five-time World Cup winners USA need a victory here to keep a narrow edge over sixth-place Colombia – who currently lead their group with 19 points – from closing any gaps that exist between themselves and Colombia in sixth. They will require all their strength and quality on this matchup!

Raphinha’s early goal and Rodrygo’s dangerous right wing play set the tone in front of Levis Stadium’s capacity crowd in the first half, only for Luis Diaz to equalize for Colombia with 96 minutes still on the clock due to a defensive error.

Selecao have plenty of talent on board to challenge Colombia, despite Neymar being sidelined with injury. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson could start in goal while Eder Militao and Danilo could start at central defense; Marquinhos and Lucas Paqueta will provide depth on either flank.

Dorival Junior has assembled an almost full roster for this matchup, although some might question their decision to release a list of 52 potential call-ups one week in advance of an official squad announcement.

James Rodriguez will likely feature for the visitors, but his participation may depend on the state of his knee, which has been giving him problems recently. He had to withdraw from their last game against Paraguay due to discomfort; however, this week he has been training regularly again and may return for selection.

Colombia’s Starting XI

Brazil and Colombia face each other on Thursday’s final day of 2026 World Cup qualifying in an important match that could decide a top-six finish. After suffering through a challenging November window that left them behind their rivals, Selecao have an opportunity to close any gaps by picking up three points on Thursday with victory.

Last time these teams faced each other, Brazil triumphed 2-0 at home in their round-robin tie’s first leg, thanks to Vinicius’ late strike that proved decisive in an excellent encounter.

Though Brazil earned victory on Wednesday night against China, concerns still exist for them ahead of Thursday’s matchup with Iran. With Neymar out due to muscle injury at Santos, also Eder Militao and Danilo are missing as well as midfielder Lucas Paqueta who will all miss out.

Rodrygo and Joao Pedro should step in as replacements, while Real Madrid stars Vinicius and Raphinha are expected to appear for Rodrygo and Joao Pedro respectively in attack – creating issues for Colombian full-backs as the latter can switch between playing both flanks.

Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombian team seems to have found an effective formula, so they may stick with what works. Everton defender Yerry Mina may take a seat while Galatasaray centre-back Jhon Lucumi may partner Davinson Sanchez at center-back.

At center-back, other options could include Lucas Beraldo from PSG and West Ham’s Lucas Perez; these players would provide defensive stability. As for the rest of Colombia’s starting lineup, the same options may be chosen; their attack likely being led by Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez respectively.

Colombia’s Subs

After suffering through a disappointing November window that saw them drop ground to those ahead, Brazil host Colombia on Thursday in a must-win match that is crucial to their continued survival in the standings. A victory would ensure they don’t travel to Argentina next week and play under similar pressure conditions.

Brazil began the game with more energy and pace than in previous matches, but Colombia managed to even things out through an unfortunate defensive mistake. That set the tone for an intense and close contest where both teams had opportunities for goalscoring.

Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid proved decisive as his late strike from outside the box was enough to move Brazil up into second place on the standings and secure victory, keeping their hopes alive of making the World Cup final.

Colombia’s attack is filled with players that could cause trouble for Brazil’s defense. Daniel Munoz of Colombian right back is quick and can move upfield quickly while Johan Mojica makes for an effective left back; though he may find it challenging defending against Brazil’s speedy wingers.

Luis Diaz of Liverpool presents another threat for Colombia. He has scored in two out of his six appearances for Colombia since April and needs to score to help Colombia beat Brazil.

Colombia can take an important step toward qualifying for the 2026 World Cup with a victory on Friday. Only four sides qualify automatically while fifth-place sides must play an intercontinental playoff match – Colombia sit two points back of fourth-place Venezuela but three ahead of fifth-place Peru.

This World Cup qualifier matchup between South American powers Colombia and Brazil promises to be one of the most pivotal in history. Both squads possess incredible talent, each searching for victory at this crucial moment in qualifying. If Colombia can find a way past an intransigent Brazilian defense they stand a good chance at making it all the way to finals.

Brazil’s Subs

With Neymar out due to injury and other factors, Brazil are struggling against Colombia. Dorival Junior’s squad still have enough talent for automatic World Cup qualification despite sitting fifth in South American rankings seven points behind rival Argentina; victory would provide a major boost before next week’s match-up in Argentina.

The Selecao had high hopes that Neymar would make his triumphant return during this international break, however his return has been cut short by injury. Neymar will be replaced with Endrick from Real Madrid; other notable absentees include Eder Militao, Bremer, Danilo in defense and goalkeeper Ederson Moraes is out due to injury.

On the other hand, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson should be fit to feature for Brazil once more, after recovering from injury. Brazil have been without Lucas Moura and Oscar, both still out injured.

Colombia hasn’t had much luck against Brazil recently and are far from guaranteed to score a win against them in this matchup. Still, after reaching the Copa America final and earning their ticket to Russia for World Cup qualifying. They will be eager to take a decisive step toward making history this Saturday against South American rivals Chile.

Brazil’s inability to score goals will likely be the primary contributor to their loss against Colombia on Tuesday night, yet if they can figure out a way for their attackers to get on the ball and in front of goal they should have no trouble earning their first point of 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Colombia are one of the best teams currently, so beating them would be quite an achievement; Brazil are clearly better than they appeared last Friday but have still yet to fully come together as a unit; winning against them would provide them with a major confidence boost ahead of a long season ahead!
