KL Rahul’s ability to anchor chases while speeding them along was DC’s key batsman today against Chennai, and his superb 77 showed why he remains one of T20 cricket’s premier batsmen.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood restricted Delhi to 162/8 after an early wobble, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 51 and Krunal Pandya’s 73 from Krunal Pandya respectively. That allowed RCB to gain the upper hand in the delhi capitals vs royal challengers bengaluru standings.

RCB vs DC
Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals will both look to continue their unbeaten runs when they face each other at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday night. RCB currently leads in terms of standings while DC are second.
Rajat Patidar, their new captain, has made an excellent start to this year. In their most recent game against Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets, KL Rahul scored an outstanding 93* which helped his side continue their win streak.
DC, on the other hand, are in good form and their recent win against LSG provided them with a much-needed boost in standings. DC boast a dynamic bowling lineup led by Mitchell Starc who will lead their charge. DC boasts an experienced squad and should contend for top two positions this year.
RCB: Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli stands alone among IPL players as being the sole representative to remain with one franchise throughout their career. Retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore during their 2011 auction, and after initial struggles during his initial two seasons – which did not produce many runs – began producing key knocks (innings) with increasing frequency thereafter.
Kohli achieved significant success during 2016, scoring 973 runs – including four centuries – and winning the Orange Cap. However, in 2022 after relinquishing captaincy to Faf du Plessis he struggled with form, managing only four half centuries that year.
Last season, Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to their inaugural IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in the final. This win ended an 18-year drought for their franchise and was considered one of the greatest matches of his career by Kohli himself. Unfortunately, they could not replicate that performance during playoffs; losing in Eliminator to KKR and eventually bowing out on net run rate.
DC: Axar Patel
Axar Patel, an experienced left-arm orthodox bowler from Gujarat, currently plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He made his first-class debut in 2012 before appearing in numerous Ranji Trophy matches throughout his career.
Kings XI Punjab purchased Patel for Rs 5 crore at the 2021 auction and quickly found him to be an effective four-overs player. Later that year he even managed a hat-trick against England ODI match and was then retained for subsequent tournament.
Axar gave DC the breakthrough they needed when Jacob Bethell miscued a pull off Axar to deep backward square leg, and Devdutt Padikkal made an unforced error at that same spot a few balls later, setting up Krunal Pandya for an innings full of run-stuffing shots.
RCB: Mitchell Starc
Starc has established himself as one of the world’s premier fast bowlers across all three forms of cricket – T20, ODI and Test. A left-arm pacer known for his lethal yorker and ability to go after batsmen, Starc is an expert fielder and wicketkeeper as well. Additionally, his wife Alyssa Healy – wicketkeeper of Australia Women’s Cricket team as well as niece of former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy – serves as wicketkeeper on their side.
Since his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2014, he has become an invaluable member of their leadership group and an outstanding finisher at the death. Additionally he has captained his side multiple times.
After beating LSG, RCB secured second place in the league stage with 19 points and a net run rate of +0.301. They will play Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 30. Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians secured two playoff places each while Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals were eliminated altogether from competition.
DC: Krunal Pandya
Royal Challengers Bangalore cemented their place at the top of the points table with a convincing six-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 73 steered Royal Challengers to 162/8 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood restricted Delhi Capitals to 26/3; Axar Patel scored 41 runs while Abishhek Porel chipped in 34.
Dushmantha Chameera started off his ninth over by giving Virat Kohli short deliveries offside, which were paddle swept past midwicket for one run. When fuller length deliveries on leg side came next, Kohli punched them through deep cover for another single.
As Krunal attempted to middle it and gets one when the fielder back-pedals from point, Krunal made contact with an excellent yorker on leg-stump which went through for another boundary shot through point and finally hit down to long on for two runs singles off an aggressive full toss from Roopakrishna for another boundary hit for four more.
With eight points from two matches under their belts so far and several tough opponents in Gujarat Giants and UP Warriors still to come before taking on these opponents next, Roopkrishna will look to consolidate their top position when taking on Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz in coming weeks.
RCB: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is an Indian cricketer who represents Uttar Pradesh domestically and India internationally. As a right-arm fast bowler known for his ability to swing both ways, he made his T20I and ODI debuts for India in December 2012 with two wickets off of his first two balls for either game.
He has also excelled in one-day internationals (ODI), helping India win the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy title. He remains the only Indian bowler who has taken five wickets per match across all three types of international cricket (Test, ODI and T20I).
Bhuvneshwar was instrumental in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win against Delhi Capitals, taking 3 for 33 balls against them and catapulting them to first place while DC dropped into fourth. With his performance, RCB moved closer towards their ultimate goal – becoming champions – while DC dropped down to fourth.
RCB was established in 2008 under United Spirits ownership and led by Virat Kohli as captain. They boast a deep squad that can fill multiple roles. New Zealander Mike Hesson serves as their head coach. RCB are famous for having passionate captains who bring an energetic style of play known as Dilli spirit to every match, which makes for thrilling cricket!
DC: Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal, 21, is an established left-arm fast-medium bowler who relies on swing, accuracy, and variety to wreak havoc with batsmen. He is particularly useful as an T20 bowler during powerplay overs. In recent seasons Yash Dayal has also proved himself capable with the new ball.
Dayal made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy and quickly established himself as a regular member of their domestic squad. Soon thereafter, they included him on their IPL squad ahead of auction 2024, where his improved control and effectiveness impressed both management and rival teams alike.
Left-armer Yash remains to make his international debut, but selectors will certainly keep an eye on his progress, particularly in white-ball cricket. Off the pitch, he maintains an easygoing and humble approach to his career and regularly participates in grassroots cricket development programs.
A fitness enthusiast with a strict training regiment schedule. Away from cricket Yash enjoys socialising with his friends and watching films; being supportive of family matters greatly and is known for being extremely reliable individual.
RCB: Suyash Sharma
Suyash made his domestic T20 debut for Delhi in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before quickly transitioning into List A for them in their match against Bihar for the Vijay Hazare Trophy – picking up three wickets to justify KKR management’s faith in him and prove their faith was well placed.
He has demonstrated his prowess in T20 cricket by confounding batsmen’s ability to read him with his combination of classic leg spin and subtle changes in pace and flight. Although still in his early career stages, his keen cricketing intellect and composed nature will no doubt ensure him a long and fruitful limited-overs career.
With their victory, Royal Challengers Bangalore have shot to the top of the points table with 14 from 10 matches, leaving Punjab Kings second due to their superior net run rate, followed by Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians who came third and fourth, respectively. Whoever wins this match will secure themselves a playoff berth while any loss means elimination from contention.
